Gotta love a reality check……
by dsmouse ~ March 15th, 2008. Filed under: Just.....Me.First of all….let me say that I love my doctor. Several years ago when I knew a hysterectomy was in my future, I inquired amongst those I knew well in the medical profession….and everyone recommended him. He has an amazing bedside manner.
I was still afraid that he was going to yell at me - all deserved - because of my weight and my blood pressure.
Even though I have gained (gasp!) 30 pounds since last year - 12 in the last three months - he didn’t fuss at me. I had to bring it up and he said “Babe, I will worry when you go over 200 lbs. Until then, I know you have a great deal of stress. All I will ask you to do is make it a math game.”
We discussed basics. basics that I KNOW but simply haven’t been following.
- Math is less calories in.
- Reduce Processed Carbs - choose whole grain, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit over white bread, pastas, potatoes and such
- Increase lean proteins. More lowfat yogurt, chicken and fish.
- Do a teeny bit of exercise. Just walk for 20 minutes three times per week. It will naturally increase itself as it becomes routine.
He said if I did this….I would see a difference within a month.
My blood pressure is a whole other issue. I ran out of meds a couple of weeks ago (when did I go to richmond?) and just didn’t get the scrip refilled. He told me to please please start taking them again.
I asked him about vitamins. and he said as much as my diet seems to be shit right now, taking a vitamin MAY increase my appetite…..but I should think about it…….if I can’t get my diet in a bit better shape.
