Love Affair

I have a love affair with Our Nation’s Capitol…. Washington D.C.
My first trip here was in 1985 on a trip with other kids between my Junior and Senior years of high school. I was chosen as an American Airlines Scholar…they chose a Jr from each area school. I enjoyed the visit, and in 2003 went with both kids and my ex-husband.
But the love affair didn’t really begin until May 2006, when I made my first solo trip to the city. It started small…and I committed to visiting at least once per month.
There is just something about the feel of this city….and there was a time when I felt more at home here than I did when I was in my own home. I am still in awe still when I see the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, or Jefferson Memorial….
Tonight, I had a window seat on the flight in….and the city lights below were simply breathtaking….and as I was driven from the airport into downtown, I passed the favorite monuments….Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson. IF you ever visit, you must visit the National Mall at night….
This is a short-ish trip. A little bit of work…and some quiet time.
The hard thing about traveling is that although I felt dead on my feet when I landed, now that I’m at my hotel and though I’m tired, I’m not quite sleepy. I’ve unpacked (one of my travel habits) have a fresh glass of water, and my new Gratitude Journal waiting to be written in.
