Veteran’s Day Thoughts

Vietnam Veteran’s MemorialOver the last year and a half, I have spent an average of five or more days a month in the Washington, DC area. I’m the kind of person that just talks to people when I’m waiting in line….or polite to those who begin a conversation with me as I sit at the bar…

Some of the most interesting conversations I’ve had are with Veteran’s…learning about their lives…what they’ve done…. My all-time favorite conversation was last year with two brothers who had served in World War II and Korea - one in the Army and one in the Navy. They made me laugh so much….

Probably the Veteran’s that are still having a hard time are those from Vietnam…and so many that I speak with still haven’t been able to visit the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial (the statue above is from there and was taken in April 2007). I have to admit that I have a hard time visiting the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial….it never fails to bring me to tears.

I wonder about the newer war veteran’s….there is such a hatred by so many for the current war (and the first Gulf War is still kind of fresh). I have never understood how people can be so incredibly mean spirited towards those serving - even if you don’t believe in the war….

If you see a Veteran - or a soldier who is currently soldier, there is nothing wrong with a “thank you” - even if you don’t believe in what they are called to do….

I have some favorite War movies that I would recommend:

Hope you have a good Veteran’s Day. And for the Veteran’s out there….Thank you….
